Little Big Man: Valero Dominates Demarco

By George Cotton Jr

Lightweight champion Edwin Valero made quite the impression to American fight fans with a 9th round TKO of Mexico’s Antonio DeMarco. Valero of Venezuela has a perfect record of 27 wins…27KOS and has a fighting style very similar to Manny Pacquiao. In the battle of southpaws Valero used angles and an aggressive style to break down the tall and rangy Demarco. Valero was a victim of an accidental elbow that left a very deep gash near the forehead. Early on Demarco attempted to outbox the stronger champion but amazingly it was Valero who out boxed the boxer at times using a commanding jab to the head and body and landing powerful left hands.

DeMarco sat in his corner and declined to come out for the 10th round of their title fight. The Mexican was well behind on points and, though he had no obvious injuries, officials said he retired on the advice of his handlers.

Two Legends/One Ring: Mayweather/Mosley

By George Cotton Jr

Every generation there is a fight that defines a generation. Every generation there is a fight that defines legacies. New eras begin, and an old era passes by. Welcome fight fans to that fight. Mayweather-Mosley. For over a decade both men have taken shots at one another on who has been the best fighter of their time, and now they have the chance to prove it to the world. Without a doubt there is only one Floyd "Money" Mayweather. A fighter blessed with almost superhuman defensive prowess and a flamboyant style that has led him to world titles in five different weight classes as well as an undefeated record (40-0 25kos), has yet to meet a foe that has been a true test to his ring dominance over the last decade. Is Sugar Shane Mosley(46-5 39kos) the one fighter that can be that true test for Mayweather? The California native is legendary in his on right, being a champion himself in 3 weight classes, appears more than ready and willing to be the first to defeat Floyd. With hand speed, a granite chin, and great power in both hands, this seems to be a very compelling challenge for Mayweather. Said Mosley, "I have always wanted to fight Floyd and now it is finally coming true. I am already in great shape and ready to show everyone on May 1 that I am stronger, faster and better than he is. I will have no problem beating him."

Johnson KO’S Mack In 6!!!

By George Cotton Jr

Glen Johnson

Former Light Heavyweight kingpin and 2004 Fighter of the year Glen Johnson moved himself one step closer to yet another world championship by defeating a much improved and very game Philly fighter Yusaf Mack at 2:21 of the sixth round Friday night. Johnson was fighting for the first time since losing a decision against Light Heavyweight champion Chad Dawson in November. The first few rounds were very competitive with Mack being very effective using angles a solid jab and right hand combinations. However as the rounds went by Johnson’s solid body attack and aggressive style eventually wore down Mack. By the middle of the 3rd round the fight began to sway in Johnson’s direction as he began to pin Mack in the corner and land very effective right hands to the head. Johnson (50-13-2, 34 KOs) knocked down Mack (28-3-2) three times in the sixth, with the final one ending the fight.

Mayweather vs. Mosley: Judgment Day

By John Cunningham

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane Mosley

Well , if you haven’t heard yet , the long awaited wait of a mega fight between Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is finally over. The two have agreed to fight on May1st at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, after a potential mega bout between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. fell through because of parties not being able to agree on Olympic style drug testing for the fight. For Shane Mosley (46-5, 39KO’s), this is his time to show the world at 38, he is still the top dog of the welterweight division and the best fighter of his generation. As for Mayweather (40-0,25KO‘s) , a chance to submit his legacy as the greatest fighter of his era . To me, there are a few factors that make this a pretty interesting fight. One is that you have two fighters whose speed is near evenly matched, which means this should be an action packed fight. Another factor that makes this such a great fight is that Shane Mosley is a legitimate welterweight with superior hand speed and power, and can pose a threat to anyone in the welterweight division. As for Mayweather, his defense and reflexes are unmatched by any other, and will cause him to be a hard target for anyone. I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for this one!
