WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan had a message for his teenage hero and idol former 2 division champion Ricky Hatton: Khan said on Sunday that Hatton should "retire and chill out". Khan is saying that now, but to me this perhaps is a ploy to get Hatton in the ring with him for what would be an massive fight across the Atlantic or in the US. Hatton who hasn't fought since he was brutally knocked out by Manny Pacquiao in their fight for the lineal title at Jr. Welterweight has yet to publicly announce that he's looking for a fight with Khan, but he hasn't ruled out a fight with Khan either.Khan has always wanted to become a mainstream attraction here in the US, and a victory over a fighter as popular as Hatton will do just that. By Khan now being a fighter for Golden Boy, a fight with Hatton no longer seems like its all talk. MONEY TALKS. And despite the fact that former trainers and people close to Hatton think it might be time to hang it up...I gotta feeling we havent seen the last of Hatton in the ring. Khan has been slated by WBA to defend his title against Marcos Maidana however his trainer Freddie Roach has other plans. 'Maidana is not well known enough and there isn't enough money in that fight.' said Roach.
Freddie Roach who trains Pacquiao also trains Khan and has publicly stated in the past that Hatton needs to retire. Hatton himself has also had talks with Marquez about a future bout between the two as soon as this summer. Juan Diaz and Paulie Malignaggi are other opponents that are being mentioned as possible opponents for Khan. After seeing what happened to the 'Hitman' in his fight with Pacquaio, I can only hope he doesn't get seriously hurt if he decides to return to the ring , because one thing is certain: Khan won't mind fighting him.
